Important Item Locations

A curated guide to items that matter for progression, team building and difficult fights. Availability follows current Platinum Five progression, not every item in the game. Wild held-item sources can vary by difficulty; Challenge is the highest difficulty.

Swipe tables sideways on small screens to see every column.

Progression & Key Items

The Old Rod is the fishing tool you need in Platinum Five: fishing uses shared location-based encounter tables. Portable Box is a guaranteed reward after defeating Palmer on Route 215 during normal story progression.

For evolutions that used to require trading with an item, Platinum Five lets you use the item directly from the Bag. This applies to King’s Rock, Metal Coat, Dragon Scale, Upgrade, Dubious Disc, Protector, Electirizer, Magmarizer, Reaper Cloth, DeepSeaTooth and DeepSeaScale.

Exceptions: Happiny levels up while holding an Oval Stone. Gligar and Sneasel level up while holding Razor Fang and Razor Claw, respectively. These evolutions have no time-of-day restriction. Dawn Stone evolves male Kirlia or female Snorunt. Eevee uses Sun Stone for Espeon and Moon Stone for Umbreon. See each Pokémon’s Pokédex entry for its full evolution rules.
