FAQ

Can I change difficulty or turn Nuzlocke on or off later?

No normal in-game option changes either choice afterward. Both are selected during the opening introduction and saved for the adventure. They are independent: Nuzlocke can be combined with Easy, Normal or Challenge. See Difficulty and Nuzlocke before starting your save.

Are level caps enforced, and do they change with difficulty?

No. The caps are advisory and shared across Easy, Normal and Challenge; Nuzlocke does not enforce them. EXP, Rare Candy and Infinite Candy can raise Pokémon above them. Check CAP in the normal pause menu. Badge Progression / Level Caps explains the current cap and the next cap after a badge.

Does the Pokédex mean all 649 Pokémon are obtainable?

No availability guarantee follows from the reference alone. The Pokédex covers the integrated Generations I-V roster. That does not promise all 649 are obtainable in every context, before the League or in one run, and does not establish whether a complete living Pokédex is possible or impossible.

For actual availability, consult Wild Encounters, Gifts & Eggs and Static Encounters. These references contain content spoilers.

Do I need to trade to evolve my Pokémon?

No. Current Platinum Five evolution methods do not require trading. Check each Pokémon’s current method in the Pokédex; special methods and friendship evolution have not all been removed. Important Item Locations covers relevant evolution items.

Why can’t I use healing items from the Bag in battle?

This is an active Nuzlocke restriction, not a Challenge difficulty restriction. During normal Nuzlocke battles, only Poké Balls may be selected from the Bag. Held items still work, and items outside battle remain usable for living Pokémon. See Nuzlocke for the rules.

Does a wipe end or lock my Nuzlocke save?

Your save is not locked. Dead Pokémon remain dead and Nuzlocke remains active, but you may choose to continue with living Pokémon in storage. Treating a wipe as “run over” remains your personal convention. See Nuzlocke for the full distinction.

Do gifts, Eggs and other special encounters use my area encounter?

No. Documented special acquisitions such as gifts, Eggs, fossil revivals, scripted statics and Honey encounters do not consume the ordinary natural encounter opportunity. You can apply stricter personal rules if you prefer one Pokémon total per location. See Nuzlocke.

Why can’t I use an HM outside battle after obtaining it?

Owning an HM and having permission to use its field effect are separate. The relevant badge, a Pokémon knowing the move, the location and progression conditions may matter. Check HMs and Badge Progression / Level Caps for the requirements.

Does Platinum Five use newer-generation mechanics?

It includes selected content and changes associated with the first five generations, not a blanket backport of every later mechanic. Documented Pokémon, moves, abilities, learnsets, evolution methods and project-specific changes do not make it mechanically equivalent to Generation V. Use the Pokédex, Move List and Ability List for exact behavior.

Does the download include Pokémon Platinum?

No. Platinum Five is distributed as an xdelta patch, not a Nintendo DS ROM. The original game is not included, and no ROM download is provided. You must supply your own legitimately obtained compatible Pokémon Platinum ROM.
